I have an airport extreme card, and the Mac picks up wifi, but it won’t connect like my laptop. It just says connection failed. Could I just take out the express card and use a PCI network antenna?

That’s why it needs an external antenna. You can use a PCI wifi card or a USB dongle as long as it’s Mac compatible. However, it would probably be easier just to grab a G5 wifi antenna on eBay or a third party parts site.
